Short reviews of the shorts
The Arm
Quirky and quick, hinting to an underlying significance
Henley
The punch is a bit predictable but the kid is funny
Ok Breathe Auralee
Could have done without the heavy handed “lyrical” transitions that were way too literal
97 Skybox Alonzo Mourning Rookie Card
Walks the line between oh-my-side-hurt funny and cheesily sentimental but still just a really cool movie.

Swimming and hot tub...the best way to relax after...
My top 5 Movies @ Sundance
Today is awards day so I am seeing 4 additional movies, but at the time of this writing dear reader (you know who you are) my top 5 movies of the festival have been:
1. Old Cats
2. Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same
3. Lost Kisses
4. Tyrannosaur
5. Pariah
Sundance is drawing to a close. There are only 2 more days of festival fun so while I am sitting, waiting for my movie to start I’d like to thank all things that made this trip enjoyable: tons of snow, lesbian space aliens (and I’m not only talking about dor and shiri), sexy boys in sweat pants, the hot tub, alcohol, matt page and timmytim, black forest gummi bears, my sweet friend...
Tyrannosaur / the Nine Muses / circumstance / a...

One ticket to paradise please!
Boleta al Paraiso (Ticket to Paradise) dir by Gerardo Chijona
The only Cuban film at this year’s festival, Ticket to Paradise is a difficult to describe. A group of wayward Cuban youths, led by the deliciously jailbait Alejandro, are left to fend for themselves on the streets of Havana. Alejandro figures out a way to get the group three square meals a day, free room and board, and all the...

Like crazy. Eh.
Like Crazy dir by Drake Doremus
To be fair, everyone else seemed to love this movie a lot more than I did, whereas I found it to be a bit cheesy and sentimental. Starring Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones, this is the story of a doomed first love (Though I had an interesting conversation with Matt Page afterward and he felt the love wasn’t doomed so I suppose it’s a film that leaves...

Favorite movie of the festival so far: Perfect...
Perfect Sense dir by David Mackenzie
Dark and strikingly beautiful, strange and occasionally a touch silly, ‘Perfect Sense’ is not a perfect movie, but it’s worth seeking out for its unique vision that is hard to shake long after you’ve left its world behind.

Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same
Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same d dir by Madeline Olnek
One of the BEST movies of the entire festival. Hysterical and very much influenced by the sci-fi B-Movies from back in the day!! My favorite performance so far of the entire festival has been Lisa Haas’s performance as Jane, an earthling. I hope this movie gets bought so that the world can see it!!!

Martha Marcy May Marlene
Martha Marcy May Marlene d dir by Sean Durkin
Captivating film that held my interest for the duration, but then ended abruptly and left me feeling unsatisfied. Elizabeth Olsen was fine. Good at best and capable at worst. I’m excited to see her other film too.

Salvation Blvd dir by George Ratliff
Salvation Boulevard dir by George Ratliff
I had a really good time at this movie. I can’t remember ever enjoying Jennifer Connelly of Pierce Brosnan this much. They were SPOT on—the tone of the whole film was. Marisa Tomei as an old grateful dead fan was just too much!
Hardest movie to get into so far: Salvation Blvd....

Got a ticket to HERE one minute after arriving!...
HERE dir by Braden King
Very slow moving and some of the dialogue was just laughable. The photography was excellent, but I’m not hanging it on my wall. This was probably my least favorite of the festival.

Red State dir Kevin Smith
Red State dir by Kevin Smith
During the 5 minute or longer credit sequence that had Michael Parks as pseudo-Fred Phelps singing a hymn to jesus, someone from the exasperated audience shouted out “we get it!” Funny, I felt that way thirty minutes in…This film was all over the place and i mean All. OVER. The. Place. Dreadful, just absolutely dreadful. Shock horror mixed with...

Shorts Program 2
Great films.
Blokes dir by Marialy Rivas My favorite short in the program, and I promise it’s not just because there was a really hot masturbation sequence. At its best moments, it captured the complete overpowering desire that befalls you when you’re an adolescent and you have just realized you are a sexual being. I found myself back there instantly, holding my breath for a lot of...

Asalto al Cine (The Cinema Hold Up)
The Cinema Hold Up dir by Iria Gomez Concheiro
Great great great film!! Follows a group of teenage boys in a poor village in Mexico as they put together and pull off a heist on the local cinema. It took most of the movie to get to the actual cinema holdup, which made it clear that the film was actually the deeper story of kids stuck in a no-way-out town who have no real chance of getting out...
